SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Jalan kaki menjadi aktivitas fisik sederhana tetapi memberikan banyak manfaat untuk kesehatan. Dengan berjalan kaki dapat meningkatkan metabolisme dan menghilangkan kelebihan lemak pada area perut.

Berjalan kaki selama 10 menit bisa membantu menurunkan ansietas dan tingkat depresi, serta meningkatkan fokus dan kreativitas. Tidak hanya itu, ternyata dengan berjalan kaki dapat mencegah risiko beberapa penyakit kronis. Apa saja penyakit tersebut?

Berikut 3 penyakit yang bisa dicegah dengan berjalan kaki.

1. Penyakit Jantung

Rutin berjalan kaki bisa menurunkan faktor-faktor pemicu penyakit jantung seperti kolesterol dan stres. Berjalan kaki dapat menurunkan faktor risiko penyakit kardiovaskular, mengurangi bobot tubuh dan timbunan lemak, mengurangi kadar gula darah, memperbaiki kadar lipid, dan mengurangi stres kronis. Dengan berjalan kaki sebanyak 500-1.000 langkah sehari juga bisa menurunkan risiko kematian diki akibat penyakit kardiovaskular.

2. Diabetes

Tidak hanya membantu menurunkan risiko penyakit jantung, berjalan kaki juga bisa membantu menurunkan risiko diabetes. Berjalan kaki sebanyak 10.000 langkah atau selama 30 menit dapat menurunkan risiko diabetes tipe 2 hingga 40 persen. Jumlah langkah harian yang lebih banyak bisa meningkatkan kemungkinan untuk mencapai target kadar gula rendah.

3. Demensia

Otak manusia akan terus mengalami penurunan fungsi seiring bertambahnya usia. Kondisi ini pula kerap dikaitkan dengan demensia. Demensia merupakan kondisi penurunan kemampuan berpikir dan ingatan seseorang yang umumnya terjadi pada lansia (usia 65 tahun ke atas).

Orang yang rutin berjalan kaki ternyata dapat terhindar dari demensia dini. Mereka yang berjalan kaki setidaknya 3.800 langkah sehari memiliki risiko 25 persen lebih kecil terkena demensia.

Manfaat maksimal diperoleh ketika seseorang berjalan 9.800 langkah dalam sehari. Meningkatkan intensitas jalan kaki bisa memberikan manfaat ekstra dalam melindungi dari risiko demensia.
