Fakta Unik: Mengapa Tisu Toilet Berwarna Putih?

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Pernahkah Anda bertanya-tanya mengapa tisu toilet berwarna putih polos? Ternyata, ada alasan di balik penggunaan warna putih pada tisu toilet.

Dilansir dari Reader's Digest, tisu toilet dibuat dari serat selulosa yang berasal langsung dari pohon atau kertas daur ulang kemudian dicampur dengan air untuk membuat bubur kertas.

Bubur kertas diputihkan dengan hidrogen peroksida atau klorin untuk membuatnya lebih putih. Proses pemutihan ini untuk menghilangkan zat lignin.

Serat selulosa juga berwarna putih secara alami. Bukan hanya prosesnya saja, tapi juga bahan bakunya yang membuat tisu toilet berwarna putih.

Ditambah lagi, tisu toilet dari kertas daur ulang sebagian besar menggunakan limbah kertas yang juga sudah berwarna putih. Meskipun virgin pulp yang diputihkan menghasilkan serat yang paling lembut untuk membuat tisu, serat yang tidak diputihkan dan serat daur ulang juga dapat membuat tisu berkualitas tinggi.

Warna putih pada tisu toilet lebih bersifat konvensional daripada fungsional karena tisu toilet tidak harus berwarna putih untuk menjadi lembut dan menyerap.
