In Indonesia, there are numerous legendary coffee shops with histories dating back decades, even centuries. Below are some of the oldest coffee shops in Indonesia:

Warung Kopi Purnama (1930)

This coffee shop has been around since 1930, located on Jalan Alkateri, Braga, Bandung. Initially named Chang Chong Se, it was later renamed Purnama in 1966. This coffee shop exudes a nostalgic atmosphere, offering dishes like roti bakar srikaya, nasi goreng Purnama, lontong cap go meh, and more.

 

Warung Kopi Asiang (1958)

Established in 1958, Warung Kopi Asiang is located on Jl. Merapi, Benua Melayu Darat, Pontianak. The unique aspect of this coffee shop is its owner and coffee maker, Asiang, who brews with his chest exposed. Using quality robusta beans sourced from Kalimantan, the coffee is known for its rich flavor.

 

Rumah Kopi Tikala (1939)

Located in North Sulawesi, Rumah Kopi Tikala has been serving coffee since 1939. Managed by the Tjiang-Lumenta family, this coffee shop started at Pasar 45 under the name Kamseng before relocating to Jalan Sudirman and becoming Rumah Kopi Tikala. The coffee is roasted for 1.5 hours to bring out its distinct aroma and flavor.

 

Kedai Kopi Apek (1919)

Kedai Kopi Apek is one of the oldest coffee shops in Indonesia that has maintained its existence. Located at Jalan Hindu No.37, Kesawan, Medan, Sumatera Utara, it was founded by Thia Tjo Lie alias Apek and has now passed down to the third generation. The traditional method of using a wood-fired stove remains to maintain its unique taste.

 

Warung Kopi Nan Yo (1932)

Warung Kopi Nan Yo, established in 1932, is the oldest coffee shop in Padang, West Sumatra. Founded by Than Tek Tjiauw, it has been thriving for three generations. The coffee uses local Sumatra Barat beans, prepared in a Hainanese style.
