SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Cap Go Meh yang menjadi bagian dari perayaan Tahun Baru China, dilaksanakan pada hari ke-15 pertama dalam kalender lunar.
Di Indonesia sendiri, festival ini dirayakan dengan salah satu hidangan tradisional Lontong Cap Go Meh yang disantap setelah berdoa di candi.
“Kami berdoa di Candi Kim Tek Le dan setelahnya melanjutkan perayaan di rumah dengan menyantap lontong cap go meh,” Ucap salah seorang mahasiswa, Windy Tan, dilansir dari XinhuaNet.
Windy Tan juga menyebutkan, di Singkawang perayaan Cap Go Meh dirayakan dengan menyaksikan beberapa penampilan. Seperti penampilan ‘Membuka Mata Naga’ yang dilakukan masyarakat sekitar dengan tujuan menanamkan roh nenek moyang ke 12 replika naga diiringi dengan marching band.
Penonton di pusat kota juga bisa melihat sekelompok orang dengan pakaian suku Dayak, berdiri, menari, atau melompat-lompat di atas parang. Masyarakat setempat dikenal sebagai tatung, kata dalam bahasa Tionghoa Hakka yang berarti orang yang kerasukan dewa atau roh nenek moyang.
Kelompok tersebut menampilkan keterampilan luar biasa dengan cara ditusuk di bagian mulut, pipi, bibir dan telinga dengan tongkat logam tanpa mengalami rasa sakit atau luka. Pertunjukannya selalu sangat dinantikan oleh masyarakat baik dari dalam maupun luar Kalimantan.
Harapan dari penampilan ini adalah terusirnya roh jahat dan terserunya perdamaian di kehidupan bermasyarakat.
Di negara lain, perayaan Cap Go Meh juga dilaksanakan dengan pertunjukan barongsai, festival kuliner China, hingga China Town.
