SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Konsultan senior umum dan ahli bedah kolorektal Dr. Sulaiman Bin Yusof mengatakan, sekitar satu hingga lima persen kandungan kafein pada kopi berpeluang menyebabkan buang air besar setelah mengonsuminya.
Melansir ANTARA, beberapa zat dalam kopi dapat menggerakkan berbagai hal di usus besar yang dapat merangsang rasa mulas.
“Ada makalah penelitian yang menyatakan bahwa rasa pahit kopi itu sendiri berperan dalam merangsang lambung,” kata Dr Sulaiman.
Konsultan senior di Divisi Gastroenterologi & Hepatologi Dr. Kewin Siah mengatakan, asam klorogenat dalam kopi merangsang usus menambah kontraksi pada usus besar.
Hal tersebut karena hormon yang melepaskan asam lambung dan sekresi empedu serta enzim untuk mencerna lemak dan protein dilepaskan sebagai respons terhadap kopi.
Penelitian mengenai hal ini telah dilakukan pada 100 orang dan menghasilkan pengaruh terhadap 30 persen orang. Dampak ini tergantung pada kadar kafein, jenis kopi, dan cara biji kopi disangrai serta kandungan gula dan susu.
Mengonsumsi gula dapat memicu pelepasan insulin yang dapat mempengaruhi pergerakan usus dan mempercepatnya pada beberapa orang.
Selain itu, laktosa dan gula susu termasuk dalam kategori FODMAPs, yaitu oligosakarida, disakarida, monosakarida, dan poliol yang dapat difermentasi. Zat-zat ini dapat memicu gejala seperti gas, kembung, dan perubahan pola buang air besar.
Kafein dalam kopi memiliki sifat diuretik yang dapat meningkatkan produksi urin dan membantu melancarkan buang air besar. Namun, bagi beberapa orang dengan sembelit atau gejala lain disarankan untuk melakukan evaluasi kolon gula.
