SEAToday.com, Jakarta-Bertandang ke Ranah Minang, Sumatera Barat (Sumbar) tak lengkap rasanya bila belum mencicipi teh talua. Seperti namanya, salah satu minuman pembangkit energi atau stamina ini berisi campuran teh, talua (telur) dan susu.

Ada beragam versi sejarah dari minuman ini menurut pengamat pariwisata Sumbar Eddi Novra dalam bukunya yang juga berjudul teh talua.

"Dari penelusuran beberapa narasumber terpercaya, minuman ini sudah ada sejak masa tanam paksa Belanda terhadap masyarakat/pekerja Sumatera Barat," kata Eddi dikutip dari laman InfoPublik.id.

Pada masa itu, ada larangan dari Belanda kepada masyarakat mengkonsumsi kopi seperti yang Belanda minum, akibatnya para pekerja membuat cara lain.

"Pekerja lantas membikin teh dari daun kopi atau teh dari ampas sisa pabrik, dan mencampurnya dengan telur ukuran kecil yang tak laku di pasaran," lanjutnya.

Cerita lainnya, kata dia, dahulu ketika membangun Jam Gadang, menaranya terbuat dari kapur, pasir putih dan putih telur. Lantas, kuning telur itulah yang pekerja olah, dan mencampur dengan teh yang kemudian menjadi dugaan asal mula terciptanya teh telur.

Kemudian, minuman ini terus berkembang dan sempat hanya kalangan elit atau tertentu saja yang mengonsumsinya.

"Ini merupakan minuman bergengsi yang ada di pertemuan pejabat, saudagar kaya, pengusaha dan perantau kaya yang sedang berada di kampung halamannya," tulis Dosen Fakultas Pariwisata UM Sumbar itu.

Teh Talua terbuat dari kuning telur ayam atau itik yang dikocok dengan mixer atau lidi, selanjutnya ada campuran gula, jeruk nipis maupun bahan lain.

Dikutip dari laman Indonesia Travel, berikut bahan dan cara membuat teh talua.

Bahan-bahan:

2 buah kuning telur ukuran sedang

2 bungkus teh celup

2 sendok makan gula

30 ml susu kental

1 buah jeruk nipis

1 sendok makan kayu manis bubuk

500 ml air
 
Cara pembuatan teh talua:

1.  Rebus air dengan teh hingga mendidih.

2.  Kocok kuning telur dan gula dengan cepat hingga mengental.

3.  Masukkan hasil kocokan kuning telur ke dalam gelas dan tuangkan susu kental sesuai ukuran yang disebutkan tadi.

4.  Tuangkan air teh yang sudah mendidih ke dalam gelas berisi campuran tadi.

5.  Tambahkan jeruk nipis dan bubuk kayu manis.

6.  Teh Talua siap dinikmati selagi panas atau hangat.
