KAI Adds 56 Extra Trains for Year-End Holidays

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - In anticipation of the surge in travel during the year-end holiday season, Indonesian Railway Company (KAI) has announced a series of measures to accommodate increased passenger demand. Year-end holidays operational period will run for 18 days, from December 19, 2024, to January 5, 2025.

To meet the expected surge, KAI will operate 52 additional medium and long-distance commercial trains, along with 2 additional long-distance public service obligation (PSO) trains and 2 additional commercial local trains. This will provide an additional 491,976 seats for medium and long-distance commercial trains, 10,600 seats for long-distance PSO trains, and 14,600 seats for local commercial trains.

As of December 9, 2024, at 7 AM, 865,494 tickets for medium/long-distance and local trains have already been sold for the year-end period, out of a total of 3,572,588 available seats. This represents 30.69 percent of the available seats for medium/long-distance trains and 1.89 percent for local trains.

Tickets for medium/long-distance trains can be booked 45 days in advance, while local train tickets can be booked 30 days in advance, with some trains available for booking 7 days prior to departure.

"For the period of December 19, 2024, to January 5, 2025, KAI Group is providing a total of 44,754,280 seats, comprising 3,572,588 for KAI passengers, 35,407,300 for KAI Commuter passengers, and so on," said Anne Purba, Vice President of Public Relations at KAI.

She added that KAI is prepared to accommodate the surge in demand during the year-end holidays by adding more trains and increasing seating capacity, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey for all passengers and a memorable holiday experience.
