SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Exploring various fascinating tourist destinations in Indonesia feels incomplete without bringing home unique local souvenirs. Besides becoming a personal collection or a gift, this shopping activity also supports the local creative economy.

Check out the following recommendations for six locations to hunt for authentic Indonesian souvenirs, as quoted from the website of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf).

1. Sade Tourism Village
Sade Village, located in Rembitan Village, Pujut District, Central Lombok, is a prime spot to hunt for the famous beauty of Sasak woven cloth. As one of the main centers for producing woven cloth, Sade Village offers authentic souvenirs directly from the artisans. You can even see firsthand the process of weaving by the Sasak women of Sade Village.

The iconic Sasak woven cloth is the songket, made from gold or silver threads woven together with cotton or silk. Besides fabric, souvenirs from Sade Village can also be in the form of bracelets, necklaces, caps, bags, scarves, and woven sarongs.

2. Ciboleger Village
When visiting Kanekes Village, home to the Baduy tribe, don't forget to stop by Ciboleger Village. Here, you can find various authentic Baduy souvenirs directly from the artisans. Located in Leuwidamar, Lebak Regency, Banten, the majority of residents in Ciboleger Village are craftsmen of traditional Baduy handicrafts that are often purchased as souvenirs by tourists.

The Baduy souvenirs sold in Ciboleger Village are made from natural materials and are crafted without the use of machines or advanced tools. Some of the typical Baduy souvenirs that tourists can buy include keychains, bracelets, miniature Baduy houses, and bamboo glasses.

3. Sukawati Market
Want to hunt for unique and authentic Balinese souvenirs? You can visit Sukawati Market, located in Sukawati Village, Gianyar Regency. This market offers a variety of artwork, traditional fabrics, and handicrafts. If you're lucky, you can even watch local artists painting or carving wood on the spot.

Some of the souvenirs that are often sought after by tourists in Sukawati Market include paintings, wood carvings, Balinese masks, statues, knitted bags, and accessories and jewelry.

4. Batik Laweyan Village
As one of the centers for batik crafts in Surakarta or Solo, Batik Laweyan Village is always a destination for tourists seeking authentic Solo souvenirs, namely batik. The name "batik village" cannot be separated from the profession of the majority of people in this village, which is batik artisans. It is estimated that there are more than 90 artisans in Kampoeng Batik Laweyan. So, you can buy batik directly from the artisans.

In addition to buying batik, Kampoeng Batik Laweyan also provides short batik-making course packages. You will be taught how to create patterns, batik, and color using the colet or tolet technique. Of course, the batik you make can be taken home as a souvenir from Kampoeng Batik Laweyan.

5. Hamadi Market
You can visit Hamadi Market in Jayapura to find authentic souvenirs from Papua. Almost all of the typical art objects of the tribes in Papua are available in this market, ranging from Asmat totem poles, bark paintings from Lake Sentani, Noken bags from Wamena, to the iconic Bird of Paradise decorations from Raja Ampat. These high-value art objects are taken from artisans scattered throughout various regions of Papua.

6. Atas Market
Located around the Clock Tower area, Pasar Atas or Pasar Ateh is a popular place to hunt for authentic souvenirs from Bukittinggi, West Sumatra. In this market, you can find embroidered cloth and high-value Sumatran songket.

In addition, Pasar Atas also sells some typical West Sumatran snacks, such as sanjai chips, skin crackers, anchovies, and appetizing kapau rice.
