SEAToday.com, Mataram - The Mount Rinjani National Park Agency (TNGR) in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has announced the temporary closure of several non-hiking tourist destinations in the Mount Rinjani area due to extreme weather caused by a tropical cyclone seed in February 2025.
"This closure will take effect starting February 10, 2025, until further notice," said TNGR NTB Head Yarman in Mataram on Tuesday.
The decision was made as part of efforts to restore the ecosystem in Mount Rinjani National Park and in consideration of the weather forecast from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) at Zainuddin Abdul Madjid Lombok Meteorological Station. The NTB region is currently experiencing extreme weather due to Tropical Cyclone Seed Invest 96S.
"This situation is further aggravated by the activity of the equatorial Rossby atmospheric wave and the Asian monsoon, increasing the risk of hydrometeorological disasters such as heavy rainfall, strong winds, floods, landslides, and falling trees," he explained.
Several non-hiking natural tourist destinations affected by this closure include:
East Lombok Regency: Jeruk Manis Waterfall (Jeruk Manis Village, Sikur District), Mount Kukus (Jurit Baru Village, Pringgasela District), Mayung Polak Waterfall (Timbanuh Village, Pringgasela District), Tangkok Adeng (Lenek Duren Village, Lenek District), Bornong Bike Park (Aik Prapa Village, Aikmel District), Malang Hill via Tombong Rebo (Bebidas Village, Wanasaba District), Sebau Hot Spring (Sapit Village, Suela District), Savanna Propok (Bebidas Village, Wanasaba District), Gedong Hill (Bebidas Village, Wanasaba District), and Mangku Sakti Waterfall via Sajang Village (Sembalun District).
North Lombok Regency: Sambik Elen Village (Bayan District).
Rinjani Area: Cycling trail in Sembalun Village, Sembalun District.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and prioritize safety during this extreme weather period.
"This closure is being implemented for the safety and well-being of everyone," Yarman emphasized.
