Singapore Minister of Culture: Taylor Swift Exclusive Deal’s Grant ‘Nowhere As High’ As Previously Speculated
SEAToday.com, Bangkok-On February 16, Thai Prime Minister, Srettha Tavisin started a discussion about the unhappiness among politicians in Southeast Asia regarding Singapore’s exclusivity deal on Taylor Swift's world tour.
He stated the Taylor Swift concert promoter A-E-G is offered subsidies by the Singapore government up to 3 million US dollars to perform only in Singapore.
Later, Philippines lawmaker Joey Salceda also expressed his disappointment towards Singapore stating that the exclusivity deals are not what good neighbors do.
Responding to the controversy, the Singapore Minister of Culture explained that the validity of the promoter deal is true, but refused to specify the exact numbers.
It is speculated that the Singapore grant is between 2 and 3 million US dollars for all six shows rather than per each show as the rumor said.
Moreover, Minister Tong also justified that it is not just about a grant, but rather the overall package. He added that the promoters are experienced and know exactly what they want out of the concert's venue.
Furthermore, the Singapore Tourism Board has stated that Singapore has much to offer for large-scale international events with its strategic location and quality infrastructure. (ALWI/ALVIN)
