SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Authority, along with community leaders, have agreed to return the names of three tourism spots in the area to their original local names as a form of preserving local culture. The three locations are Teletubbies Hill, Love Hill, and Kingkong Hill.
Teletubbies Hill is renamed to Watangan Valley, based on its history, as it used to be a low land with native Tengger vegetation trees. The number of Watang trees that collapsed at that location made it called Watangan Valley.
As for Love Hill, it will be called Lemah Pasar, with PasarAgung as a place of ceremony as its original name. Meanwhile, Kingkong Hill is renamed to Kedaluh Hill from the Sanskrit words “Kada” and “Luh” which means longing and rain giver or Indra the god. Combined, the name Kedaluh contains hopes for prosperity in the Tengger region.
The declaration to restore the original names of these locations was made on August 17, coinciding with the 79th Indonesian Independence Day.
