SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Google announced the launch of Android 16 will come sooner than expected. It is expected to launch between April and June of the second quarter of 2025. Fairly different from the usual release schedule from Google, seeing final releases in Q3 of every year, more precisely around August to October.
As put by Matthew McCullough, the VP of Product Management for Android Developer, "We're planning the major release-Android 16-for Q2, not Q3, to better align with the device launch schedules across our ecosystem." said McCullough as quoted from Android Developers
By doing this proactively, the company wants to ensure that more devices, including but not limited to Google Pixel smartphones and other brands from Android, can get the latest operating system much earlier.
Historically, Google has launched beta versions of Android about six months in advance of the stable version. Android 14 was available as soon as the Pixel 9 series was out in August 2024, while it was only mid-month October before the stable version of Android 15 made its debut.
With the new timeline for Android 16, the new operating system is expected to be available on future Pixel models, such as Pixel 10, right from their launch day.
Also, Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold and Flip series is expected to benefit from early rollout so that users will get a chance to enjoy improved security and performance enhancements coming with the latest OS.
After that, Google is going to unleash a second update over the initial release in the fourth quarter of 2025, which would most likely be called Android 16.1. It is going to offer minor improvements and bug fixes, further refining the user experience.
All in all, Google's plan to speed up Android 16 release shows its commitment toward adapting to the rapidly changing landscape of technology. With this, it means users can access newer features and security updates sooner.
