SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Apple is set to unveil its latest 2-nanometer (2nm) chip in 2025, which will debut with the iPhone 17 Pro series. The Cupertino-based company has reportedly secured all of TSMC's 2nm production capacity to make this a reality. This new advancement highlights Apple's ongoing commitment to innovation in chip technology.
The chip will only be available in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models due to production limitations. "Despite these constraints, Apple is moving forward with the 2nm chip for its high-end models," a source from GSM Arena reported on Tuesday (17/9), Cited by antaranews.
TSMC, Apple's long-standing chip partner, has already showcased its 2nm product. However, the company still requires assistance from various suppliers to finalize the chips for use in smartphones. Collaborating with multiple partners, including suppliers of materials and equipment, will ensure the success of this next-gen chip.
The 2nm production line is being set up at TSMC's Baoshan plant in Yunnan, China, and is expected to begin trial production in Q3 2024, ahead of schedule. This strategic move positions TSMC ahead of rivals such as Samsung and Intel in the chip-making market.
In addition to Apple, TSMC is expected to supply 2nm chips to Nvidia, further strengthening its dominance in the semiconductor industry.
