SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The release of Android 16 may bring an unexpected change. Google appears to have shifted away from its alphabetical dessert naming tradition. The new codename is reportedly "Baklava," breaking the expected pattern of using a dessert starting with "W."

The information was revealed by GitHub user @teamb58. According to the source, the name "Baklava" was found in the code for Android 16. Google, however, remains silent on the reasoning behind this shift.

This marks a departure from the naming patterns seen in previous Android versions. Android 15 used "Vanilla Ice Cream," and many expected a "W" dessert to follow. Despite the potential, Google decided to go with a Turkish pastry instead.

The decision to choose Baklava is still under speculation. As @teamb58 mentioned, the change was noted in the platform code but no official announcements have been made. Many wonder if this will be a permanent break from the alphabetical tradition.

For now, Android enthusiasts will need to wait. More details are expected closer to Android 16's official release in 2025, which might explain Google's choice.
