Revolutionising Jakarta's Cityscape: A Look at Transit-Friendly Living

Revolutionising Jakarta's Cityscape: A Look at Transit-Friendly Living

SEAToday.com, Jakarta-While Jakarta keeps being hustle and bustle on the ground, the underground development is also progressing. The Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project is now a significant change to how people get around the city. According to the official website of MRT, Phase 2A is a crucial part of this, and construction at CP 201-Thamrin and Monas Stations is moving along right on schedule.

This phase is different because it's not just about building train stations. It's about creating spaces where people can live, work, and play, all while easily using public transportation. This new way of planning is called Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) which is considered as the solution to a denser population with less space for housing.

Perum Perumnas and PT Integrasi Transit Jakarta (ITJ) are working together to make this happen. They're not just building tall buildings; they're also making sure there are plenty of parks and green areas. Budi Saddewa Seoediro, the boss at Perum Perumnas, says this is important because Jakarta's population keeps growing. TOD offers a smart way to build homes for more people without making traffic worse.

Perumnas and ITJ aren't just focusing on homes, though. They're also thinking about places for shops and businesses. Imelda Alini Pohan, who works at Perumnas, says they want to make neighborhoods more lively and fun for everyone.

Transit-oriented development isn't just about building homes near train stations. It's about making life easier for everyone. Budi Sadewa Soediro believes that by living close to public transport, people can spend less time stuck in traffic and help the environment by using less fuel.

Currently, Perumnas has developed TOD concept residences in three different prime locations, namely Tanjung Barat Station (Samesta Mahata Tanjung Barat), Pondok Cina Station (Samesta Mahata Margonda), and Rawa Buntu Station (Samesta Mahata Serpong). It's not just about trains and buildings; it's about making life in the city more convenient and enjoyable for everyone. And as Jakarta keeps growing, projects like these will keep shaping its future. (ALIF/DKD)
