SEAToday.com, Jakarta -In 2017, the Indonesian Education and Culture Ministry officially recognized 33 traditional fabrics from diverse regions across the country as Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Among the 33 are fabrics commonly found in Indonesia like batik and ulos. However, the list also includes rarer fabrics, such as a bark cloth from Kalimantan, which has become rare due to the loss of the tree’s forests.

By designating these fabrics as cultural heritage, the government aims to protect them and encourage the public to preserve them.
