SEAToday.com, Los Angeles – The popular video-sharing app, TikTok, which was temporarily banned in the United States (US) due to a law that took effect on Saturday (1/18), is now back in operation in the country.

According to a CNN report as quoted by ANTARA, US President-elect Donald Trump announced at an event in Washington, D.C. that "TikTok is back," more than 10 hours after the ban was enforced. Trump also mentioned the possibility of a deal between the US government and TikTok regarding the app's continued operation in the US. TikTok has confirmed that its services are active again.

Earlier, on Friday (1/17), TikTok, which is headquartered in Los Angeles, warned that it would have to shut down its services for approximately 170 million users in the US by Sunday unless a "definitive" assurance was provided by President Joe Biden.

On the same day, the US Supreme Court upheld a law requiring TikTok’s China-based parent company, ByteDance, to sell the app to an American company or face a nationwide ban starting Sunday, a day before Trump’s inauguration.

Following this decision, millions of users flocked to the TikTok platform to express their support for the app.

In an interview with NBC News, Trump stated that he had not yet made a final decision regarding TikTok but was considering a 90-day extension beyond the deadline set for Sunday (1/19).
