Kebumen Geopark Named as UNESCO Global Geopark

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Kebumen Geopark has officially been recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark (UGG). The UGG Council meeting in Cao Bang, Vietnam,on Sunday (8/9) unanimously approved and recommended Kebumen Geopark for this designation.
“All UGG Council members from 11 countries have unanimously accepted Geopark Kebumen as part of the UNESCO Global Geopark,” said General Manager of the Kebumen Geopark Management Board Sigit Tri Prabowo. The official designation and certificate handover ceremony are expected to take place in early 2025.
The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has also extended its congratulations on this achievement.
“Congratulations to the Regent for his extraordinary efforts. Many events were held in support of Kebumen becoming a UNESCO Global Geopark. Indeed, Karang Bolong is very majestic,” said Minister Sandiaga Uno.
Kebumen Regent Arif Sugiyanto expects this achievement to be a milestone in the revival of Kebumen Regency.
“ The entry of Geopark Kebumen into UGGp must be able to have an impact on improving the welfare of the community, because this is our initial goal in striving to make Geopark Kebumen enter Unesco Global Geopark,” he said.
