SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Ministry of Communication and Digital is partnering with the Industry Task Force (ITF) to enhance Indonesia’s digital ecosystem.

Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, emphasized that one of the key focuses of this collaboration is expanding connectivity access through both domestic and foreign investments.

"In terms of 5G investment and digital connectivity access, this area requires greater attention. Whether through national funding or private sector involvement, both domestically and internationally," Meutya stated, as quoted on Antara, during a meeting with ITF at the Ministry’s office in Jakarta on Wednesday (3/12).

Beyond connectivity, Meutya highlighted digital governance as a core policy priority under President Prabowo Subianto’s administration. She stressed that accelerating the digital ecosystem must be accompanied by well-structured regulations that encourage startups without hindering MSME growth.

A crucial factor in strengthening the digital ecosystem, she noted, is the country’s readiness to establish a reliable and secure national data center.

"We know that private data centers exist, but the government must also have a robust national data center," she said as quoted on Antara.

Meutya also opened opportunities for private sector collaboration in developing national data infrastructure.

"The government doesn’t have to own the data center alone. If the private sector wants to contribute to a shared ecosystem, we are open to it. This will provide new insights into how we can build an optimal national data center," she said as quoted on Antara.

Addressing global trends regarding artificial intelligence (AI) bans from certain countries, Meutya reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to an open foreign policy approach in adopting AI technologies.]

"Indonesia must follow its foreign diplomacy principles, meaning we should have access to technology from all sources. Whether from country A or B, we will not impose bans. What matters most is our readiness and the digital ecosystem’s capability to embrace rapid technological transformation," she concluded as quoted on Antara.
