SEAToday.com, Jakarta - Google has introduced new security features to help Android users protect their data if their phones are stolen. These features include Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock, designed to provide enhanced security, especially in cases of phone theft.

Reported from Antara, Sunday (10/6/2024), while Remote Lock has been available to Android users for several years, the Theft Detection Lock and Offline Device Lock are new additions. These features aim to prevent unauthorized access to a user’s data.

The Theft Detection Lock stands out as the most innovative. Using artificial intelligence (AI) and device sensors, it can detect motions commonly associated with theft, such as when a phone is forcefully taken from someone’s hand. The system can even identify movements typical of someone riding a bike or driving a vehicle after stealing the device. Once activated, the phone automatically locks and blocks access to apps and data.

Offline Device Lock is another new feature that keeps the phone locked if a thief attempts to disable network connections for an extended period. This ensures that even when the phone is offline, it remains secure.

Google’s longstanding Remote Lock allows users to lock their phone remotely using just their phone number. This feature is especially useful if the "Find My Device" service has been disabled. However, it's still unclear which Android devices will support these new updates, but users are encouraged to update to the latest version of Google Play Services to access these features.

With these updates, Google continues to enhance the security of Android devices, making it easier for users to protect their personal data in the event of theft.
